Cruise to Colon
If you're planning to propose marriage, or renew your vows with your significant other, on your cruise, um, don't, err, plan to do it in Colon. We mean no disrespect, but Colon is what it is: Home to the second-largest free-trade zone in the world, a place where merchants come to purchase goods to send back home, tax-free. Tourists can play, too. Kind of. You'll need to show your passport to enter the massive, multi-block zone and you can usually only leave with small items that you can carry on your person or in a small bag. (Ask your cruise crew for tips on how to navigate the place and regulations.) A visit to the Free Trade Zone is exhilarating or overwhelming, depending on your disposition and mood. If that's not your bag, look into shore excursions to the rainforest or to nearby Portobelo.
