Cruise to Charlottetown
Fans of Anne of Green Gables already know what they're doing upon visiting Prince Edward Island — the province is the fictional home of Lucy Laud Montgomery's famed orphan Anne and today a brisk tourist trade revolves around all things Anne-based and Gable-related. A trip to Green Gables in the Prince Edward Island National Park, located in Cavendish 25 miles north of where you'll dock in Charlottetown, is mandatory for enthusiasts, as is a visit to Avonlea Village, a recreation of the life revealed in the book. Non-fans? PEI is home to some of the world's best seafood (mmm, mussels) and Province House National Historic Site, the site of the 1864 meeting that lead to the Confederation of Canada. Oh, and the landscapes are stunning, for those who wish to heed nature's call. Literature, nature, food and history — call it a Canadian four-pack of fun.
