Moderate Mid-Size SET SAIL 2000
Understated music theme - more classical than rock n' roll
Better-than-Starbucks coffee, the Explorations Café
Manageable size of the ship means a more intimate feel

Midsize ships aren’t for everyone, but ms Zaandam and similar ships from Holland America have a loyal following for good reason. There’s more than enough to enjoy onboard and in the spacious staterooms, even during the four sea days and five nights spent getting to and from Hawaii or other Pacific crossings.

ms Zaandam OVERVIEW

Medium-size ships have always been a favorite among Holland American Line veterans, and ms Zaandam, along with sister ship Volendam, doesn’t disappoint those who don’t crave huge cruise ships offering everything under the sun. Holland America Line's ms Zaandam had sailed to rave reviews for half a decade, but the addition of Signature of Excellence enhancements in 2005 has lured many more repeat and first-time guests.

The musical theme is thankfully understated and some things are easy to miss, so the best way to see and learn about it all — from the baroque-style Dutch band organ in the atrium lobby to signed guitars by Eric Clapton, B. B. King, Keith Richards and Carlos Santana to one of Bill Clinton’s saxophones — is through the iPod self-guided tour.
