Carnival Fascination is a midsize vessel that has everything a fun-loving cruiser wants. While she’s an older ship, she’s had regular TLC throughout the years. Staterooms and public spaces have been fully renovated and in 2010, several outside cabins were upgraded to balcony cabins. The ship has a full water park with multiple slides, a live music stage on the Lido deck, and a beautiful yet high-tech show lounge. Fascination’s home port as of 2016 is San Juan, Puerto Rico with itineraries in the Caribbean.
Formal evening dining onboard this ship takes place in two main dining rooms: Sensation and Imagination. Both dining rooms have specific space to accommodate people who have chosen flexible “Your Time Dining,” but both also serve late and early seatings in the traditional format. People who prefer more traditional service must reserve their dining prior to sailing. Breakfast in the main restaurant is open seating.
Coconut Grove Bar & Grill is a popular option for breakfast and lunch (open till late afternoon) and is located close to the pool. The buffet has classic breakfast selections and a rotating lunch menu as well as a NY deli sandwich counter and a pizza counter (open 24 hours).
There are no alternative dining options on this ship, but the savory Chef’s Table menu and galley tour can be booked for $75 per person.
Bars & Lounges
While these venues may lack the new sleek branding, there are plenty of watering holes on this ship, especially around the Lido pool decks and the Promenade retail area. Puttin on the Ritz is located in the aft section of the ship.
In the evening, cruisers can take in major productions in the Palace Main Lounge or comedy in the smaller show lounge. Karaoke sometimes takes over the Passage to India Lounge.
Sing-alongs and drinks keep the room entertained in the Club 88 Piano Bar, and DJ-spun retro and current hits encourage dancing till late night in the Diamonds Are Forever dance club.
By day, there’s likely to be DJ entertainment or live music right out on the Lido pool deck, which still has a bandstand. And the casino almost always has some action.
The big adrenaline draw for older kids and some adults is WaterWorks water park—specifically its multiple slides, crowned by a 4-level high 300-foot Twister corkscrew. However, the main pool, which is located mid-ship, remains the center of organized activities. Hairy chest competition, various faux-athletic competitions, themed DJ parties and all the classic Carnival activities happen here.
The Serenity adults-only deck on this ship is well separated from the poolside clamour, and has two dedicated whirlpools.
Thanks to extensive refurbishments, Spa Carnival on this ship exceeds expectations: Modern, well appointed and a full 12,000 square feet, compares well with most ships in the fleet. One standout feature is the treatment menu, which includes some services just for teens.
The sports park has mini golf, volleyball, a basketball half-court, and a track for walking/jogging.
- The ship lacks a pool for adults who prefer a quieter and calmer poolside experience.
- There is a lack of alternative dining venues on board.
