MSC Cruises Announces Partnership With Celebrity Chef Roy Yamaguchi

MCS Cruises is Partnering With Celebrity Chef Roy Yamaguchi


Announced this morning at a press conference, Roy Yamaguchi, James Beard Award winning chef and culinary pioneer behind the wildly popular Roy’s Restaurant, will introduce a new specialty pan-Asian restaurant on MSC Seaside. With his international culinary vision, Chef Yamaguchi will be personally involved in conceptualizing and designing every element of the new pan-Asian restaurant, from creating the recipes and menus to training the chefs and wine pairings. The restaurant will also include a sushi, sashimi, and raw bar, as well as a space with four Teppanyaki grills. The restaurant will be priced at a set rate and the name has not yet been decided.  

Chef Yamaguchi was there to talk about his new partnership with MSC, saying “Everything I want in a restaurant will be duplicated at sea. We are going to go beyond the pan-Asian style and give it a contemporary feel, sort of an unorthodox style of cooking where we incorporate Teppanyaki style cooking. Guests will be able to get traditional Japanese sushi and contemporary rolls similar to what you would find at one of the Roy’s Restaurants.”

MSC Seaside is set to make her maiden voyage in December 2017, home porting in Miami and sailing to the Caribbean year-round.

This latest announcement further adds to MSC Cruises existing partnerships with renowned, award-winning chefs. Carlo Cracco, leader in progressive Italian cuisine, is the chef behind the special Christmas and New Year menus for MSC Cruises’ guests. The cruise line is also collaborating with Chef Cracco in designing a new cooking experience for the MSC Cruises DOREMI kids clubs that will be available in summer 2016. 

French chocolatier and pastry chef Jean-Phillippe Maury will be tempting cruisers with his deliciously sweet creations. While his chocolate is only available on MSC Divina right now, the desserts will expand to the rest of the fleet, with new desserts in the buffet, speciality restaurants and the MSC Yacht Club. Chef Maury will also work with MSC Cruises to create a gourmet ice cream parlour and crèperie in the indoor promenade on MSC Meraviglia, launching in spring 2017.  

An expert in all four schools of Chinese cooking – dim sum, barbecue, wok cooking and knife work – acclaimed Chinese chef Jereme Leung, will bring his contemporary Chinese cuisine to MSC Lirica, the first MSC ship to be deployed out of Shanghai, China in May 2016.
