First Look at Harvest Caye in Belize

Mar 16, 2016 | By Lauramay LaChance

Norwegian Cruise Line divulged details about the highly anticipated Western Caribbean destination, Harvest Caye. This will be the only non-tendered cruise ship pier in Belize, making it easy for cruisers to simply walk off the ship and start exploring the country.

Here’s what you can expect to experience on the 75-acre oasis of Harvest Caye:

For the beach bum: There will be a seven acre white-sand beach with 11 beach side villas for rent and a tranquil 15,000 square foot pool featuring a swim up bar. Beach chairs and tables will surround the pool area along with 15 canopy cabanas for rent.

For the adventure seeker: There’s a structure standing 130 feet tall that looks like a lighthouse but it’s called the “Flighthouse”, where you can zipline 3,000 feet across the water, free fall jump and maneuver through the challenging but fun ropes course (similar idea to those found on Norwegian ships). And while you won’t find jet skis on Harvest Caye you will find a shallow lagoon area for waters sports including kayaking, paddle boarding, electric boats and canoeing.

For the eco and cultural lovers: You’re in southern Belize so there’s tons to explore such as jungle river rafting, rainforest tubing, lagoon wildlife and mangrove estuaries but you can also go on a guided tour of a saltwater lagoon to watch the manatees that frequent the waters around the area or get up-close and personal with endangered Scarlet Macaws and Toucans, Belize’s national bird in the islands Aviary.

For the shoppers: Norwegian will be developing a Shopping Village and promised to work hard at bringing local retailers in rather than filling it with retailers that can be found anywhere in the world.

For the growling stomachs: There will be a total of five dining options and bars including a two-story indoor/outdoor Landshark Bar and Grill.

Norwegian ships currently sail to Belize City, which is about 60 miles north of Harvest Caye. The new port call will be featured on all western Caribbean itineraries welcoming guests in November 2016.
