Shayne Benowitz

It was a family cruise vacation at age 15 when Shayne Benowitz first fell in love with the laid-back beauty of Key West. Nearly a decade later, after college and a career as a New York City school teacher, she made the move to that tiny island 150 miles south of mainland Florida where she spent the next five years working on boats and drifting back and forth from the coral reef to the harbor every day. To her, Key West is the epitome of freedom.

Today, she resides in Miami Beach where she's the Hotels & Travel editor of and a destination expert and hotel critic for The Telegraph. Her work has appeared in the Miami Herald, BOAT International and Modern Luxury Interiors, amongst other publications. She loves counting a handful of cities as "second homes" and prefers slow travel in order to immerse herself in the lifestyle and culture of different destinations.
